Integrated in the garden of the XIX century, they form a beautiful visionary to that beautiful landscape, where we can see panoramically the Castle, the zones of Graça and Santana, and the valley and the slope of Av. da Liberdade. The belvedere is contiguous to the street, with a lateral terrace planted with trees. There it is a little sculptured-bust, in homage to the journalist Eduardo Coelho, the founder of Diário de Notícias. The sculpture is from the authorship of Costa Mota, and it is implanted in a pedestal and surrounded by a railing conceived by the architect Álvaro Machado. Under the belvedere's platform, in the slope above the avenue, the Garden of S. Pedro de Alcântara appears as a terrace with roads and trees, and in each road there are stone busts representing some figures linked to the Discoveries, namely Afonso de Albuquerque, Pedro Álvares Cabral, Vasco da Gama, D. João de Castro and the proper Infant D. Henrique. |
