The author of this railway station (1886-1887) and Avenida Palace (1890), implanted in the Restauradores Square, was José Luis Monteiro.
This station presents a solid façade neo-manuelina that esthetically contrasts with the station interior, made in a luminous iron structure, representing the insecurities of the époque’s taste, always divided in the permanence of the old style and the progress to a new and modern style. This work coasted a lot of money in that époque.
