After the Neighborhoods of Encarnação and Mártires, was instituted the Neighborhood of Santa Catarina in the 9th October 1559, implanted alongside the slope that comes down from Principe Real to Boavista. Its territory was one of the most extensive, being one of the most populous zones in Lisbon, till the middle of the XX century.

Associated to its history come always the characterization of a diversified neighborhood, in its historic, patrimony, social and cultural dimensions, cause the aristocrats and the populace lived together.
