Convent and church of S. Domingos

The king D. Sancho II elected in 1242 the place where in that year started the construction of the first convent. Today it is situated in S. Domingos Square. The convent and the monastery annexed to it were an important step to the expansion of the urbanization outside the Castle Hill.
For the beauty of S. Domingos, it had been considered, together with the Jerónimos Monastery, the most ample and important Church of Lisbon.
